Default how much abuse can a 12 bolt take?

Basically i need to know if i can use a 12 bolt or if i need a 9inch.

full weight car
383 with AI 200cc heads and matching cam

drag radials, its mostly a street car but i will run at the track a few times to at least see what i run

if i have a good shot at breaking a 12 bolt with that setup, thats all i need to know. i dont want to risk it, but i would rather not give up more hp for the 9inch if its just not needed.

i hear the dana takes less power to turn but it weighs more, so which is better? dana is stronger but in the end does it take more hp than the 9inch?

M9 is stronger than 12 bolt , lighter than the 9" and doesn't weigh much more than the stock 10 bolt

loooooks like a great piece but gosh damn is that expensive. I've seen plenty of people go 9's on a nicely built 12 bolt in an auto. I'd say you should be fine if it's made with nice strong pieces. I plan to go 12 bolt and th-400 soon on a 400 rwhp car.

When you factor in a good torque arm at $400+ it isn't that bad in price. It also is the same weight as the 10 bolt.

Here is my Moser M9. Bob

9" or Dana 60... if you're going to do it, do it right.

All I know is Tru Tracs cannot take wheel hops. Busted 2 of them, the 2nd and current one is acting like a Spool.

the weakness of the 12 bolt is the carrier.. hop like a bunny and you will end wishing a 9"

on the other hand 12 bolt + spool = best value...

you choose

With the automatic you you should be alright with that type of power on a 12 bolt. For a peace of mind I would go with the moser 9" and get your suspension done right to eliminate the wheel hop.Im running the 9" and im putting 470rwhp down and I have all bmr double adj suspension and I can say I dont have wheel hop problems.Go 9" bro!

Go to the track and start asking ?'s. There are a lot of 12 bolts running there with transbrakes ahead of them. Of course, I'm not a Ford fan, but I do have a Ford starter solenoid on my car.

My brother's LT1 Formula with a Moser 12 bolt is down to a 10.92 in the 1/4. I don't see a problem with the 12 bolt (other than the gear noise that it will develop) until you get into the 9's. Bob

My little bro's Nova runs high 9's with a 12 bolt. I run mid 10's with a 10 bolt. But we are footbraking it, no transbrakes at all.

Forget Moser, go with Strange 12 bolt. Ive been reading everybodies past experiences with Moser and its more negative but all good things about Strange. So choose Strange, I am!
