Default slp 4.10's a.k.a AAM 4.10's whine

hey everybody, new to the site and forums in general, but i have a pretty common question. I installed the slp 4.10 gears in my 02' 35th anniversary camaro within 100 mles I began to get a whine not real severe but noticable at highway speeds around 55 and 65 mph. Backlash was correct and used the factory pinion shim. Gear pattern is right dead center of the ring gear. I have the zexel-torsen carrier with the slp upgrade package. Just curious if any one out there has a cure or found some way to make it quieter. I called slp and they said normal pending on install. I took it to a GM shop I work for so I know they have all the tools and the know how.

Thanks

Im almost guessing that it could be, but not subject to, the height of the teeth on the ring gear compared to the factory 3.42's, considering the thrust block between the axles in the carrier had to be shaved just to get it to fit in the carrier. I am going to have the technician readjust the shims and see if he can fine tune the position of the gears. It just makes me curious because AAM made my gears and GM's factory gears that go into all their vehicles and pick-ups so hopefully he can take care of it, and fine a happy medium!

have you had any durability or longevity issues with the whine occuring? how long have you had the gears installed?

I beat on them with drag radials since the first day, they have been perfect so far.

I've had the same problem with every set of 4.10's that i've run. Reshiming will probably help but damn near impossible to get it all out.

I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes, well with 3.73 tho aswell have a wider channel between teeth that might make them quieter possibly. Just a thought
