Default How good are gears compaired to TC?

Well I know for an auto, a stall is the best mod. But I hear a TC can shorten the life of the trans, so I'm leaning more towards 3.73 gears instead.
I'll be swapping from 3.23.

If a TC is a 10 out of 10 in terms of performance, what score would the gears swap be? As good as a 7? Or maybe only a 5?

Your opinions please.

there will be a noticable difference, but its hard to say how much it will be compared from going to a 3.73 from a 2.73. some claim to not feel it, some do. and a tc can shorten the life of a trans. this is because it creates more heat, and generally if you have a tc you are drag racing which will hurt a trans long term. a trans cooler will negate the heat issue, but the strain you put on the trans is up to your right foot

While true, the torque converter is the mod to do for the auto, gears are still a fun mod. And for the price (especially if you do them yourself) they are right up at the top of my list as a great bang for the buck.

Converter makes the most smile factor on your face plus funs things up driving. Worrying about what damages stuff when upping performance is silly.

Seems like gears will be a worth while mod
How worth while, a 7/10?

Its hard to say, I spent less then $300 for my gears and complete rebuild kit. So I got a completely refreshed rear end and a gear upgrade for $300 bucks and a days work. For that price, you would be hard pressed to find another mod that could equal that. I also spent about $200 on a 12 ton press and a few various tools so that I was capable of doing it myself.

A half point jump in ratio may not make a big seat of the pants difference; my wife's Z28 had 3.23 gears and I didn't notice much of a difference between that and my car with 2.73 gears.
