Default What gears do you all have and like?

I am going to be putting 4.10s in my trucks 8.5 rear with a Eaton posi and i wanted to know if anyone could put out good things they hear/have with the different gear manufactuers out there. I was thinking of gettings Richmonds' 4.10 gears but i want some feedback on those or others before i buy them in a few weeks.

btw, its in my 93s10 with the lt1/m6......i hear the m6+ 4.10s are a match made in heaven. And also, it going to be with a 295.50.16 or 28'' rear tire

IMHO the motives are the most popular if you want them rather quiet. The Richmonds are a bit more noisy but stronger for racing.

well when you guys say ''stronger'' do you mean like just weekend warrior beatings that the motives wont be able to take or are they not too great for the average guy with a street car that gets on it and goes to the track once in a blue moon? I dont want to have to deal with swapping gears if not having too.

How noisy do you say they are? And wheres the best place to get the motives if i go that route?

By noisy I mean if I'm cruising at 70mph in 6th gear with the windows up I can hear a very light whine on the drive side.....can't hear it with the windows down or when the motor is spinning higher than ~2500rpm.

I toasted a set of Motive Performance 4.30's in less than 1k miles and 5 track passes. Gears were set up perfect and were dead silent until the ring/pinion started to eat itself up. Keep in mind I'm talking about 7200rpm clutch dumps in a 3900lb car, so I'm hard on stuff. Odds are you'll be fine with just about any gear set as long as it's set up correctly.

yea i mean this wont be a weekend warrior, or a drag truck, but i do want to take the truck to the track til i have a 12second pass.....Now i dont know if that possible wiht the specs i have but we will see. But i want gears that will take the street abuse i will give them and the few times i take them to the track.

Get some 4.11's and don't look back. With a 28" tall tire, you'd be doing 130ish at around 6500, so you won't have to worry about running out of gear either.

EDIT: That's for 4th gear by the way.

i would not recomend 4;56 with a 235-60-15 m/t street e/t slicks and a stock motor, i was hitting 5 gear befor i hit the traps, **** slowed me down, car the awsome the first 60 feet but spunn, ran a 13.4 at 102 and my last run i spit out the spider gears, so now go's in a 9'' rear and 4;11s

I ran 3.73's, good all around gear. If you were planning on running a better rearend I would say 4.10's. Wheel hop is going to be an issue.

i dont see why the 8.5 rear wouldnt be a decent rear, i mean its only probably a 300hp motor. But wouldnt a taller tire and the 4.10s be perfect? Taller tire, the better right so it has more revs?
