S60 True-trac breakage- any reason?
I bought a s60 with 4.10s and true-trac. I have read a few posts about these things breaking alot recently. What exactly is going on/wrong? What kind of break-in procedures are you guys doing beforehand? How often are fluid changes? How many miles/launches before it breaks? I'm assuming the ones breaking are when the car DEAD HOOKS (t56) from a stop on hard launch...
I'm starting to get a little paranoid, but then again I have no other choice. My car lives as a daily driver and I love hitting corners hard and pitching it sideways from time to time. Therefore, a spool or locker is not an option for me. I can't really get abusive on this car until I get the UMI torque arm/relocator off the tailshaft.
My plan is to do 5 heat cycles (250mi), remove cover and completely clean, add new fluid. Put another 250 easy throttle miles, and change fluid again. Then hammer on it for another 250 and change fluid again. Then change every 5000mi or every 10-15 drag launches.

I thinks its the higher rpm launches that do it. A lot of power going thu it seams to be fine for the street guys. I didnt reallt BREAK anything in mine but it stoped going starit, Im only at 41x whp, but the 6speed, 2step at 6500 hammers on it. I htink there for low rpm outroading trail trucks. Not drag racing.

I did a little research and I think the worm gears can wear down the housing? Because of this, it is not rebuildable. The good news is that if it does indeed break, the spool is only $200.

If mine breaks I'm going to put in a Detroit Locker, I have a question my S60 came with 3.73s and the True Trac, does anyone make a 4.30 gearset that will work on the 3 series carrier?

Well I found a set from US/Strange pn: RS05897430 from Summit for $208 shipped, they fit the 3 series carrier and are made from 8620 steel, the only problem is they won't ship until 11/27/09. Oh well at least I have them ordered.

Bit worried about my tru trac but hoping the auto will help it not break. I have been reading about the wavetracs they sound streetable and super tough. Pricey but what the heck.I don't want a locker or spool. My car is 99% street car.
So hopefully wavetrac offers one for the dana 60 at some point in time.
