Default spool...posi...locker??

i don't know much about rear-ends i know that a spool is basically a solild axle all the time.... i got a 400ci motor build trans and all getting ready for a rear-end now. I do see track time about once a month or less. Looking for 3.91 or 4.10s but wondering if i should go posi or locker? Any advice would be useful. Thanks

cant go wrong w/ a spool, but it all depends on how you want the car to perform and what you do with it. call me and i will take the time to discuss your options and give you my experience based on what we have sold and raced/driven ourselves.

You don't really want a spool for a street car.

At one time I would drive with a home-made spool on the street without issues. It was a Ford 9-inch with welded spider gears.

Yea i should have stated that i wasn't going to go with a spool. sorry but what about the difference between a posi and a locker? Posi uses clutches and locker gears... ? What about types of each, i want to be able to drive the car on the street but also put slicks on it and rip through the gears on/off the track. M6 btw... Thanks for the replys

m6 then go with the locker. Yes it has gears inside and not clutches or springs.

X2... I would go locker if you enjoy crusing. Turning will blow d*ck with a spool.

I have seen some problems with a locker with manual transmissions. Sometimes the extra drivetrain slop that is inherit with a locker causes the manual transmission and part throttle to want to grind when going into gear. At wide open throttle it is not a problem, but it can be at part throttle.

I feel that at this time the Wavetrac seems like the route to go. I have the differences about the different diffs listed at this link. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com....html?item=145 Bob

I have a detroit locker in my Chevelle and it works great and is quiet. It also held up to 700 hp.

When I got my locker I think it was good for 900 hp? (can't remember) I do remember that it was the highest rated before going to a spool. That was the reason I went with it.

i went with 35 spline axles and detroit locker back in 2005. after hudreds of passes the last 4 seasons and over 15,000 miles on the street, the only thing i have done to this rear is change the oil and 3rd member gasket once. the locker takes some gettin used to but its def better then a spool on the street especially with a m6 car.

Too bad Wavetrack doesn't make one for the Dana 60, if my Tru Trac gives up the ghost I'll get a Detroit Locker for my S60.
