Default going w/ a 9" and have some ?'s

ive decided to go with the mwc 9 inch and have a few questions. this is gonna be a first for me, so if anyone has any advice i would really appreciate it. anything i need to look out for? should i have it narrowed any and if so how much? the car is lowered 2 inches, so i was wondering how tall of a slick i can run and how much work will it take to fit an 11.50? im settin the car up for the strip and i could care less about how streetable it is. like i said, im open to any advice, opinions, warnings, answers, and whatever ya have to say about it haha. anythings appreciated. if i left out any key info let me know....im learnin

The info that I am working on at the above link may help you out. It is directed towards the Moser rears, but it may still answer some questions. Bob

so you can use less back spacing rather than 7.5 bs and tuck in your wheels inside the fender.

unless you tubbed your car he doesnt have to do anything to his car.

depends what size rims you would use.standard around here run 15x10 on the rear.more tucked in if its narrowed/shortened.

ABQ99TA is asking what would normal street wheels (i.e. zr1, zo6s) look like with a narrowed back end? I always wondered that myself.

Also to the OP I am m6 and went with a full spool. The less parts that move, the less parts that break..heh

just becuase somebody runs a full spool, doesnt mean they are hardcore. I ran a 9" spool with 4.57 on the street all the time. Track use was awesome though. Only noticed the spool on launch and in tight slow speed turns like in parking lots.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND A SPOOL.

The car would have to either have deep dished wheels to keep the tires centered, or the car would need to be tubbed for a much wider wheel. You would no longer be able to use the stock wheels unless the car was tubbed, and then the wheels would be way under the car and it would look weird. Bob

Very true, I myself prefer a spool to a locker on the street. Bob

Seems like people on tech are hot or cold on spools. I definitely think you better have some good strong rims to go with it.

yea im not real familiar with the spool. i just figured on goin w/ the locker. but i hear someone complain that it wore the synchros out. not too worried about it, between the stuff im puttin on and the way im gonna drive it, stuffs gonna break. but if theres a better way that can keep all that to a minimum that'd be great.

A locker can cause the back of the car to wiggle around when letting off the gas, it also can cause a manual transmission to grind when shifting gears as a locker has a lot of backlash in it. Bob

On my Camaro I ordered the rear one inch shorter on each side, then I went with 15 x 10 Weld Wheels with a 6.5 inch backspace. The 325/50R15's are perfectly centered. Bob
