Default plan on building my own 9"

a friend of mine gave me a 9" from a late 80's E-250/350
i dont have it yet to be able to measure flange to flange. I was wondering if anyone has built their own... such as cut off the existing flanges and brackets from the 10 bolt and welding them onto the 9" after i cut off the old brackets.

I was wondering if i was able to keep a torque arm setup or if i'll need to go to a 4-link which i wouldnt mind either. i also plan on back bracing it too

i am doing this due to cost and experince

Thanks

Sure but you have a whole lot of obstacles to overcome plus how much are you really going to save? Good luck though... a search here will give you the info

I think under the 8.8 build thread there is a picture of a 9" with a torque arm mount. I believe that Currie makes one also. As long as your measurements are accurate and angles precise you will have no problems.

i am confident in my measurements... i was thinking of possibly just going with a 4 link anyways...

Moser sells the bare housing with torque arm mount for a reasonable price, then you can get your own axles and center to complete the rear. I'm sure if you’re a skilled fabricator you could do it yourself but buying the housing would save time and isn't too expensive.

make sure you have a nodular iron 3rd member, if its not, its not worth using esp if your going for a bullet proof rearend. its better than the 10 bolt, but there are better choices than a stock cast 3rd member.

sorry i meant to put 9:30 pm... but im in engine machining

did you bring in your stock 10 bolt and level that as if it was in the car and measure the existing brackets... then you cut them off and are welding them onto your 9" at the same angles?

mine is a moser housing, i just have it in putting a backbrace on it and changing gears.

you can take measurments off my brackets in relation to the pig and pinion centerlline.

its sitting back between the long rail and the cougar if you want to go back and look at it on your break. Mr. Schulz is teaching, he will let you go out and look at it. and if you need gears and a spool, i have some forsale.

torque arm. the torque arm is laying over by the red rail, the bracket is still on it. you can see how it goes on. i think moser will sell this to you.
