Default 12 bolt,3 series carrier,4 series gear

Wanting to install a 4.10 gear on a 3 series carrier.Want to use a motive gear but the thick gear is on backorder.Richmond has the thick gear as well as several others, but I am wanting to go with the motives.Anyone running a setup with standard gears and a spacer?

you are confused, there is no 4 series gear. There is 3 and 4 channel and 2 and 3 series. Two completely different issues in themselves. Plenty of info in the stickies up top.

Please don't use a spacer, wait till the proper gear is available.
the spacer is a 'last resort' situation. The spacer has to be 'perfect',flat and parallel.Any variance from 'perfect' will produce a varying lash situation. Also with a spacer, two potentially sliding surfaces have been introduced which could cause ring gear bolts to lose their torque.

In order to run the 3 series gear with the 4 series carrier you will need the short gear.Should not be to hard to find.I have seen them in the search for my thick gearset As long as you dont have an ABS reluctor...

OK Mr. Johnson. Since you seem to be the 12 bolt guru. Rittle me this. I bought a used 12 bolt w/Moser installed 3.73 gears. My question is, what series carrier do I have. I know I "could" have either one, but what would they most likely put in it? I want to put a 4.11 or 4.30 gear in, just don't know what series I need. Thanks man.

NO not guru at all.But I am guessing it probably came with the 3 series, maybe give them a call and see what they say.If not maybe pull the cover and check for the part no on the diff or measure it.I do not know what the dimension is tho.If you dont have a reluctor you are probably looking for the same gear as me,which motive does not have right now,and that is the brand I want,so I will have to wait until they do another run.I could get yukons right now but they are $280 or I can wait and get the motives for $180 when they are back in stock.Unless someone can recommend another gear to use?

I have used the spacer on a set of 4.88 gears in a camaro with a ls-7 big block
They worked for a while then I sheered all 12 bolts off on the ring gear. changed to the right carrier and never had another problem

Quick Reply: 12 bolt,3 series carrier,4 series gear
