Default 3.73 or 4.10

i have an A4 i'm looking to install a set of gears and i had my mind set on 3.73's but a few people have told me to go 4.10's because of the overdrive gear. I wanted 3.73's because i still like to cruise on the highway and i don't want to lose alot of MPG's, any input on what gear i should go with? also when i have the gears installed would i be able to drive the car home without it being tuned for the new gears? the drivetrain shop that i'm using is not a tuning shop just drivetrain work. thanks in advance for the input

4.10 would be more fun, but be weak be cause of size of pinoin. With stock size tires you may run out of gear in drive and go into OD in the 1/4. Sure you may drive before tune, trans may shift early and spedo will be off

4.10s will kill your MPG quite a bit. go with 3.73s for an auto, 4.10 M6

Go with the 3.73's. I have 3.73 ring and pinion. 4.10 would be too much for an A4.

you have a 2000 WS6 A4,which probably has 3.23s' and you want to put 3.42s' from a 1999 SS M6,harly seems worth the effort to go from 3.23 to 3.42.If you're going from an A4 w/2.73s' to 3.42,then it becomes reasonable.

the gears that came out of the SS are 3.73's, i just wasn't sure if there was a difference in size(manual rears differ from A4 rear) i'm still a newb when it comes to this stuff.

If you run used gears they will whine. Every set i've ever heard do. Buy new ones.

Go 3.73 with the a4.
