Default halibrand rear end

has anyone every used a halibrand or any other type of quick change rear end. I am working on a school project and we are thinking of going with this but are curious to the noise and performance levels. any input would be awesome.

halibrand is not a 'china' brand, they've been around since the 50s'.
always wanted to adapt a quick change rear into the Z.
now I just build a complete rearend on the bench and swap out rear in a few hours, would be much better to just swap out 2 gears under the car.

The Halibrand rear is the original Quick Change rear...

The quick change has the best performance do to it's center location pinion on the ring gear.
They can be very strong and very light depending how you order them, there are lots of different ways and materials to order them in....

Awesome rear, and the easiest and most gear ratio options of any rear EVER, and the quickest to change at that, there are 2 versions, the helical cut QC and the straight cut QC, this refers to the QC gears at the back of the housing, the SC can make some noise, while the HC are for a silent operation.

This would be the rear to use for people that really change gears a lot, forget the drop out versions like the 9 , 8.75 and now the new 12 and dana 60 drop outs...

To put the HQC in a car, in fact most cars, involves losing the gas tank for a cell since the rear section that houses the QC part of the gears sticks out like 8"...

Otherwise it is a nice rear, and can be had in different materials and polished.

interesting. do these handle shock loads well? most are aluminum center sections and I know a nodular housing can even have issues holding up to trans brake launches..
