Need Experts help getting a pattern.. Never ends with the infamous 10 bolt
Is it me or does this pattern mean to the pinion is to close to the ring gear? This is with a 35 as compared to my 33 stock shim. I didnt change my ring and pinion just the bearings.
And also the carrier is in the 10 bolt really tight with the stock shims. Is that normal?

any advice.. whats beyond me is that its pretty much the stock shims with the whole stock setup.. could it have been that bad with the stock specs? the pinion shim is 3/1000 larger than stock.. and carrier bearings have the same stock shims..
or is the above the 3/1000 thickness pushing the pinion too close to the ring gear? shoulda hired a mechanic.. damn

I can't see that very well - not in focus. Also are you putting some resistance on the ring when you turn the pinion to get the pattern? If there is no resistance the gears won't press against each other to give a good marking.

yep,normal
pattern is not good, I am not sure what it needs, with same shims should be back close to where you were. I do not think you were like that before. why did you change shim?did you use a new crush sleave? and set it up correct?

bearing shouldnt change the shim sizing that much, maybe for side preload but not on the pinion itself, thats for sure.
if you kept the shims corresponding to each correct side, and put it all back then you should be really close i would think.
i did mine with new Richmond gears and a bearing kit, and patterned it perfect, ect and it hummed terrible, went back to stock and wore in just fine.
edit.
yeah blonde moment, if your side preload is off then pattern on the ring gear wont contact. just the way it shows in your picture.

I cant see your pattern. We need some pics that are in focus and back away a little further. Most all sets i have done I start with the factory shims first and it usually gets it very close. You are holding the ring gear as you spin it right?? It needs resistance against it to make a good pattern.
