Default Tight budget for rear end

Hello everyone first post here and hopefully I can find some answers. I currently have '01 WS6 M6 that's daily driver. The car is pretty much stock except for cat-back and air filter. For the past year my rear end has been making a very loud noise, especailly on the highway. I was advised by a mechanic that it would need a rebuild that can cost up to $700. Now being that I am going to get laid off in May and going back to school in the fall, I am wondering what rear end to get. With the tax returns I can afford a rear from Midwest performance, but with my current situation I think I can put the 3k to better use (sad to say because I really want to go with MWP). I was thinking about going to junk yark and finding direct replacement? Would this be better or are there better options out there? Thanks for the help.

You can find a used 10 bolt on here for pretty cheap and it would be a direct bolt in. I would say put that money towards something else seeing that your going back to school in the fall.

Would I find that on the classifieds? The only thing I worry is the condition and also the gears because the M6 has bigger gears than an A4.

would a 12 bolt be worth it for an M6?

Thanks again for all your help.

I have a m6 you probably dont need to get it rebuilt, just get it clean out and maintenence. Change the fluid, bearings and put the GM additive in it. It is required for limited slip. Then put a girdle on it. I dont Drag mine just road race it. Mine also made a loud noise, turned out it was a bad bearing. They are common on these cars to go out. Save your money.

I just received my 9" from Kentucky Turbo. Lowest price around!
