I know it sux cause it costs more money but "HELL YEAH" i love the carnage of a rear end that was designed for a VEGA in a car with TQ great pics...Glad i am almost done with my 8.8

Gears, Axles, and stuff like that turn black when over heated alot. Just watched a guy next door tear apart a trany he just built because the guy he sold it to forgot to put fluid in it. The guy next door to me showed me new gears and the gears that were fused together and they were as black as that.

You can also look at your pic closely and see that the splines were galling. ( galling- is a form ofwear seizing or tearing of the gear or bearing surfaces occurs.) I would check everything else out.
