7.625-7 5/8. All internal parts are interchangeable between 7.5/7.6(7.625 and 7 5/8 are called 7.6) EXCEPT for 7.5 carriers that are for 26 spline axles, but parts for 26 spline carriers, such as carrier bearings, gearset, pinion bearings are interchangeable with the 7.6 rearends.

So when ordering a master rebuild kit for the rear end and gears is there anything I need to look for specifically? I'm planning on ordering this kit.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I'm not trying to advertise here either, simply trying to make sure I'm buying the right thing. This is for a rebuild on my stock 02 trans am 6sp.

Thanks

what you linked is not a rebuild kit but a gearset and it is not for your 6 speed car which has a 3 series carrier because it has/had 3.42s'. the link is for a 2 series gearset.

This is the rebuild kit I meant to post, this will work for my rearend correct?

And this gear kit from summit will work?

I'm just looking for stock gear replacements at the lowest price.

Yes and Yes.
potential problem is going to be the pinion seal. there are 2 styles/sizes and you really don't know which you have until you take it apart. it's a not often occurring problem on 00-02 f-bods. your local parts stores typically stock both so you can take it with you to match it.

you didn't mention anything about axle bearings and seals, since you're doing a complete teardown.

I've never had a rearend rebuilt so I didn't know I needed to do the axle bearings and seals. They aren't included with that kit I posted?

That appears to be the full rebuild for my rear end plus axle bearings correct?

NO,it doesn't contain axle 'stuff'. Rearend rebuild 'kits' don't contain axle brngs & seals. The 'better' GM rearends of 8.2,8.5, & 8.8,axle bearings and seals are on the axles, not in the housing as in our puny rears.

Nope. That kit has pinion bearings and seal, plus the pinion shims and a new crush sleeve, and the carrier bearings - no axle stuff at all.
