Default Gear Oil Change - yes I searched

Okay from the search I did I found that people either use 75w90 or 75w140. What brand is normally used and what do people use to get the oil into the rear?

I have a 2002 Camaro Z28 6 speed with 3.42's. I'm pretty sure this is the torsen unit, so that means I don't need the limited slip additive...correct?

torsen=no additive required.

75/90 is whats recommended so thats what I have always run. Brand is preference, I personally dont think it really matters.

Okay, what about getting the oil into the diff housing? What did you use?

Small piece of like 3/8s hose. Hook it to the end of the bottle and that way you can squirt it upward into the housing. Its a pain in the ***.

What about an oil gun? Like a $15 one from advance auto?

A torsen is a limited slip diff. But, it differs from an Auburn in the fact that its all gear griven. Its not the best design in the world but it does the job. And auburn has clutch packs so thats what the additive is for. Syn fluids typically already contain the additive so no need to add it. It will say on the back. Easiest way to identify an auburn is the yellow springs.

A torsen:

I use a "shampoo pump" you can get from a beauty store or sometimes walmart, etc. Drop it right into the jug of gear lube and pump it in.

Who knew you could get stuff for working on cars at a beauty store! LOL!

93-98 Auburn diff that needs additive, 99-02's had the Torsen which did not need additive. HOWEVER IIRC, the 99-02 cars had an optional Auburn diff (not the same as the 93-98 auburn diff) and idk if they needed additive or not.

Some of them are a perfect fit for the smaller gear lube bottles too, they thread right on and you trim the tube to length!
