Dont matter what you do to a 7.625 10-bolt it will always be a POS the ring and pinion are too small and was never designed to hold power hell it was designed for a 4cyl VEGA,Monza in the early 70s on up......
I have 850.00 invested in my 8.8 and will handle a BUNCH more 6speed launches

Im not a die hard against the 10 bolt, but its true.I have never put any time or money into my 10 bolt because i broke one years agao with drag radials on a 305 tpi with auto. The ring and pinion are just too small. It doesnt matter what you put into the 10 bolt,it will not last if you launch a 6 speed on sticky tires. The case on the 10 bolt is too weak to keep the gears locked together,so when you launch the gears start to seperate and the teeth on the gears just cant hold up on there edges, and break.
SHAME ON GMHTP,and you know they wont let anyone know when it breaks

Auto cars tend to save their rears longer but its not going to last forever.
Give it a season, and we will be watching a 12 bolt or M9 Swap in the STi Killer.

My ten bolt lived well through 100k. And I gave it some Motives and a fresh Ratech rebuild and its still living well behind a 4k converter and DRs. Ten bolts aint so bad for autos that is.

The article explained why they just upgraded it, didn't you read?
They're not going to give the car huge clutch dumps on slicks, they're not worried about it.
It may still go, but maybe not.

it depends how you use a 10 bolt. yes if you are a weekend track car you should upgrade. but for an auto x car or a fun DD there is no real need to go out and buy a 9 inch. my 10 bolt with 2.73s is 14 years old and has over 200K on it, no whining or any other issues. im putting in 3.73s and a girdle in a few weeks (cost me $200 for everything) but because i use it on the street and will rarely see any track time im not too worried about it. just dont be stupid with it and do 5K launches and you should be fine for a while.
