A local shop worked with me on the mount since I dont know how to weld cast. I set it all up and had them weld the axle tubes, the talked with them how to make the T/A mount. I wasnt worried about weight I told them I just didnt want it to break. This is what he came up with. Im very happy with the results, Now I just hope it installs with no problems!

The rear was put back at factory width with the 10bolt axle tubes. Its also out of a 90's Linc. Town car.
At the moment Ill be running a mustang 28 spline carrier with stock 10bolt axles in it just to test it out. If everything works out as planned and it is a reliable unit Ill order custom moser axles and put the 31 spline explorer diff in it.

Its tough to give you an actual cost of doing this, because I traded some stuff I didnt have anything in for the town car 8.8. Then I did all the legwork to get it set up.
My car used to 60ft around 1.5-1.6 with the old motor, So stress testing this thing shouldnt be a problem.
Thanks for the compliments!

We got the old rear end dropped out of his car today and started installing the 8.8 in it. Everything looks pretty good so far. I think he is going to finish buttoning everything up and test drive it tomorrow.
Here is a pic for now:

Yep, finished it tonight. Took it for a test drive everything seems great. drives straight down the road. It makes just a little noise but its hardly noticable (probably my fault on gear install)
Im very happy with the fit. Overall the build wasnt that hard. And the shop that did the mount did a fantastic job. Ill be taking it to the track next weekend if the weather permits Ill post updates again then.

Im still using the stock torque arm, and stock width for the rear. I have a BMR adj torque arm but the pinion angle was perfect where it needed to be with the stock on it.
My build took around 2 months. One month was waiting on the shop for the torque arm bracket and it was well worth the wait.
specs:
Stock width
factory axles
arp wheel studs
Mustang 28 spline trac loc
3.73 gears out of an explorer
With using the factory axles make sure to use the 8.8 c-clips. Since the button on the end of the axle is .100 thinner if you use the GM7.5 c-clip it will fall out.

I'd like an 8.8 because I seriously doubt I'll ever make enough power to really need a 9", and the 8.8 is lighter and has less parasitic loss compared to the 9", correct?
The problem is no one sells pre-made 8.8s, that I know of, and I have no welding tools nor skills to fabricate anything myself. If I would pay someone else to fab an 8.8 rear, do you think it would still be cheaper than buying a new Moser 9"?
