Rear End question for the gurus
so yea, just got home from a 3 week vacation so of course i take the WS6 for a ride, everything was perfect. lil bit of spirited driving on the highway, no brake stands, clutch dumps anything like that. so im pulling in my driveway which has a little bit of a lip and i was not goin fast or i would bottom out, when i hear a loud grinding sound half way up the driveway followed by a couple hops. i shut it down put the e brake on and get out, and see/smell diff fluid just pouring down my driveway. im scared to look, what is best/worst case scenarios?

I doubt your insurance covers mechanical failures, but it's worth it to look at your policy. Bob

it is possible it may have just thrown a bolt out of the carrier... a new set of bolts, lots of cleaning, some locktite, and a new cover may get you by for a while. gonna have to pull it off and see what the real situation is before just buying parts from someone trying to sell you a bunch of stuff you may not need. get it apart and post up some good pics and we go from there.

if its not the posi, i would need gear/pinion, cover, and install kit/bearings correct? if so how much does that run in parts. just got off the phone with my insurance and they will cover it but ill have to come up with the 500$ deductable but if the parts to fix it are cheaper i may just go that route.

oh... we can spend way more than that 500 if you'd like. that's no problem, but not necessarily what needs to be done. if it needs a gear, bearings, install kit, or a diff unit, 500 will come real quick. can you do the work yourself or are you having a shop do your labor? depending on the extent of the damage, you could possibly run into 500 labor even.

If your insurance is on board try and get a new rear end out of it. Im sure either way like everyone has said parts for this will more than likely hit $500 instantly
good luck, let us know how everything turns out

well i was trying to find a shop that would give a nice quote and just do a 12 bolt or 9 inch LOL, i mean the dealer quote was 2300 from one and 2700 from the other.

Why would you have insurance cover it especially if you could do the work yourself? First off, they're not going to put a different rear end in the car than what it came with. Second, they're probably going to find you a complete junkyard unit. Third, if you can get the parts for a little over 500 and do it yourself, why get insurance involved and make your rates go up (they will go up)?

in 10 years ive never made a claim so i dont think my rates would go up, and from talkin with my insurance company they cut me a check for the total minus my 500$ deductable, so if thats the case and they go with say the 2700$ quote, that gives me 2200$ which would be a 9 inch or 12 bolt.

What insurance company do you have? I would love to get on that plan LOL. As for parts, Ring and Pinion = $265.00, Master kit = $109.34, Axle Bearings = $32.00, Cover = $32.00. Definately under $500.00. Let me know if we can help you out.
