Default rebuilding a 7.5" rear

It's my first time changing the diff on a solid axle car. My roommate bought an Eaton lsd for his 99 v6 camaro and we've run into a problem.

All new seals, bearings, crush sleeve, and an assortment of shims from Summit were used in the rebuild.

Everytime we put any torque on the bearing caps, everything locks up, it will not rotate. Bearing caps are not mixed up, and about half a quart of gear oil has been poured over the bearings.

I reused the shim on the pinion shaft with the new crush sleeve and bearings, it has been torqued and measures 24-26 in-lb to rotate the pinion shaft.

Could the pinion be going too far into the ring gear? Another thing I thought was weird that there is barely any room for a shim on the ring gear side of the diff. Is this normal with installing an eaton lsd?

sounds like you're trying to use a 3series carrier with a 2series gearset.
some V6s' had 3.08 gears which are 2series. if you're trying to use a 3series carrier, lockup will occur before the cap bolts are torqued.
a typical amount of shims on the carriers gear side might/would be about .110",the offset of a 3series carrier compared to a 2 series carrier is about .300". if you're attempting that, you've got about .200" interference.

I'm running an Eaton LSD and had no problems setting it up.

Damn, that's exactly what the problem is.

We're looking online for a series 3 gearset to match the eaton diff, is there a way to tell if it is a series 2 or series 3 gearset? most sites don't mention that unless I'm looking in the wrong spot.

I have yet to see a site that doesn't say if a gearset is for 2series carrier(thick gear) or for a 3series carrier.
carriers are typically listed as 3.08 & down(2series) or 3.23 & up(3series).
gears are also described as for what series carrier they're for.
what site(s) are you looking at ?

If you're trying to find a 3.08 gearset for a 3 series carrier,I don't think anyone makes one. The 3.08,because of the pinions' large diameter necessary for the ratio, would need a very 'thin' ring gear, which would probably be too weak at the base of its' teeth. With a 3.08 gearset, you HAVE to use a 2series carrier. If you're gonna end up changing gear ratio because of having to use the 3series Eaton, you're gonna need the computor reprogrammed to correct the speedometer.
