Default help from anyone in the New York Long Island area

i recently had to throw new gears in my 02 Z28. I am getting really nasty whine at 50-70 mph. Pretty unbearable, from what i believe the backlash is way off. IS there or does anyone here know anyone who can fix and adjust my gears in the New York, Long Island (nassau county) area? Please and thank you

its probably too late, once a pattern wears in there will always be noise. Who setup up the rear?

I have gone through many gears because of whine. People/shops always claim that they can set them up and that they have done hunderds with a good outcome but then the gears whine anyhow. I even took it to a GM dealer and they f*cked up the install and my gears whined.
The only shop that was finally able to install gears and they didnt whine was Dial Transmission on Merrick Rd. Its in either Bellmore or Merrick (I forgot). The owner is Pat. He set up the gears on my 02 Hawk (3.73's) and they have zero whine.
You may need to get new gears because of the wear pattern. I would suggest getting AAM brand (essentially OEM). They are relatively cheap and are quiet. Go to Drive train specialists website, http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...5/randp-1.html and select which gears ratio you want and take it to Dial.

As a side story, I recently moved to FL and I am looking to put my stock 3.42's back in. Since I don;t know any shops here I figured my best be is to take it to a GM dealer because they should know what they are doing right? Wrong!! They F*cked it up and my gears whine. From here on out I am sticking with transmission shops, reputible ones. Apparently they are the only one's who know what they are doing. So at the end of Novemeber (after property taxes are paid) I am taking my care to Superior Transmission in Boca.

thanks a ton for the info. I usually have my mechanic do all my work for me. He is not a drivetrain specialist but i figured he does good work on the norm why not give it a shot.

I'll definitely pick up some new stock gears and did you have to buy an install kit for the gears before you brought it there?

thanks again for the info i will check those guys out for sure

You can try contacting Vette doctors in Amityville or Kaltech in sentauket, both are in nassua/suffolk respectively.

Personally, when I get work done not at a dealer, I always get the parts myself and bring it to them, this way you know what is going in your car (if you care). In this case. I like things like OEM gaskets going in my car so I know it wont leak. Some shops use RTV and while its ok I prefer OEM gaskets.
If you really don't care then they can get anything he needs for the install

if you are willing to drive far for a good job, I can recommend a guy who did my Moser gears. It's a trip, but I'm in Queens, and I still use him.
