Default Torsen T2-R improves traction everywhere

I have had a Torsen T2-R differential in my '98 1LE for 2 days now. It is an amazing piece of work. Compared to the stock unit it puts more power to the road in all situations: even straight ahead when the road surface is less than perfect, which is just about everywhere. Cornering is amazing: exit speed on a corner I drive everyday is up, for example, from 40mph to over 45mph. Split friction ripple surfaces are not traction-losing deal now. The g-forces in cornering are way up simply by seat of the pants measurement. Someone posted it is worth about 30 hp in the corners, but imo it affects everything, and more than 30hp.

Perhaps many people won't post about this mod in their car because (I believe) it is an invisible cheat in F stock auto-x, so you don't hear about it so much as you would otherwise expect, but this is well worth the money I paid, $540, to Sam Strano.

Now I need stiffer roll bars to handle the cornering forces. Previously with street tires I didn't generate enough cornering forces to make roll with stock bars an issue for me. Now, holy Toledo this car rolls.

I just bought a T2R from Strano as well. I am installing it this weekend and hope to test it out at an autocross next weekend. Most ESP cars and SM F bodys have this mod and seems to be a very important one as well.

What Gear oil did you use? I am going with AMSoil or Red line.

It is the snitz....I've had mine in for 2 years now, and it's just incredible , especially in autox ( I'm in CP ). I went with 35/21 bars from Sam as well. My gear oil was Redline.

Yup.. whats all said above.. Only drawback is its over $500.. But I think it was worth it, considering you can spend $500 for just a catback..

The gear oil is 1/2 AMSoil and 1/2 LE (Lubrication Engineers). I just used up what I already had on hand -- it works. The Torsen is rated my #1 mod so far, and I've got more than the usual suspension mods: Battery in the back, subframe X-ors, Lower front a-arms from LG, track bar from BMR, and 2x adjustable Koni's because it is a 1LE Z-28 to start with but I put 17" SS wheels on it. If you figure what that stuff costs the Torsen is ok on bang for the buck. I just ordered the new Addco 35 mm hollow bars from Sam Strano too.

First time with my T2R at the autocross and all I can say is it was a night and day difference! I came in 2nd in SM out of like 8 cto 10 cars and was ALOT faster than before with this T2R! Makes the car put down the power, especially those right handers.
