Default Rod ended LCAs break moser 12 bolt housing, pic inside

The car has had the lca's on for about three years now and about 40k miles. Car was my daily driver during that time and I guess being solidly mounted put some strain on the axle housing. I would expect that this could happen to anybody running rod/rod lca's on the street for an extended period of time.

Sucks that I just sold this car to my brother only to have the axle housing break before he even got to take it to the track .

Hard to tell in the small pic on my laptop but it looks like it broke right through the middle of the weld on the center section. A good weld won't break on the weld, it will break somewhere else because the weld is the strongest part. I would talk to Moser and see what they say.

I seriously doubt your rod ends did that, but that is only my opinion.

I agree with the above poster.

Im pretty sure people have been running rod/rod LCA's for longer than you have on 12" and 9"s and probably 10"s. This was not a problem of it being a rod/rod LCA..

I bet if you call moser they just give you bs about how it's designed as a stock replacement and not designed for drag racing. Sounds like something that would happen to me, except I'd be the one who bought it. Sounds like it's time for a 9 inch.

You were using solid rod ends on everything?

Did they plug weld the housing to the tube also? I don't see that weld in the picture

You would be surprised what enough shock can do to things.

Yep, everything was solid rod ends.

I haven't called Moser yet but I know they will just want us to send it to them at our expense.

I know the weld is SUPPOSED to be the strongest part but it this case it wasn't. I'm not expecting Moser to pay for anything, this is just part of the game of hot rodding.

I fail to see a plug weld in the pic. Pull rear, disassemble, have both sides plug welded, repair the broken weld, and reassemble with new seals. 12 bolts are plenty strong enough and this should have never happened. I agree that Moser probably won't do anything after 3 years. You can always inquire with Moser and express your concern about the lack of plug welds.

Yeah the solid ends do hammer things a little more then other ends....

There should have been plug welds, the tube to the housing weld is added insurance... That weld could have been a bit better too though.

Atleast they didn't do your driveshaft too, that weld sees repeated hammering...

It's extra insurance to keep the axle tube fom spinning.

I would blame that on weld brittleness and fatigue, not
a little less cushion at the outboard end.

I didnt see any plug welds but I wasn't looking for them though.

Moser just pmed me with an offer to get it fixed at no charge to me. I am working on getting the receipt but I was pretty impressed by their offer.

Did you also have rod ended lca's?

Did Moser fix it for you? If they didn't cover it, how much did it cost to fix?

No. They were poly bushings on each ends. It was actually discovered by my friend who bought the car. He just took it to one of his buddies and had it rewelded.
