Cost of gears and install?
We don't drag race this 410rwhp 02 ss, just some spirited driving on the road course and at speed on the hiway.
It's got the factory 3.42's accompanying the m6, but I'd like to try some oem 3.73's (not 4.10's).
What should I expect to pay for some gears and the install? Would a guy dare try used gears? Just thinking out loud here.

3.42 --> 3.73 is going to be a VERY small change, maybe not even noticeable. I just went from 3.23 --> 3.73 and its not much diffrent.
If you want OEM I think you need to look at AAM brand gears.
It cost me $800+ for everything, I got the TA cover and deluxe install kit because my wheel bearings were shot with only 49,000 miles. The labor on the install was $350 + $40 for shop parts.

Dont buy used gears because the pattern thats on them is set for the last rear it came out of. So the pattern could have been set wrong and would wine like a siren. My install cost me $330, gears cost me around $200 new for richmond gears. Get a master rebuild kit and you should be good. Kit will most likely come with wrong size pinion seal, Get the GM seal from dealer, Mine is leaking with aftermarket seal. I think in 01 the seal transitioned to another size, so most kits will have wrong size seal.

Did my 2010 truck with gears and an install kit cost 257$ shipped and took 2 hours to install. Used motive gears, yes there is a slight wine but it is slowly going away, only 600miles on them.

I was hoping to be under $400 with the install. Anymore hardly seems worth it for not much change in gearing and still having the wimpy 7.5 10 bolt.

3.90's would be my gear of choice. I just don't like what I hear about them either noisy or breaking. Sounds like just save the coin for a better rear setup.
