Default 4.10's in my automatic?

I've been trying to search for people that have done this but have had no luck? I have a 98 Trans Am that has factory 2.72's and I need to completely redo my rear end the way it and am really leaning twords 4.10's instead of 3.73's. I only drive in town and very rarely ever take my car on the highway. Are any of you guys out there running 4.10's in your auto's and if so how do you like them? Thanks in advance

Dave

3.73s are better IMO for an auto ,but if its not going to bother you go for it. Also, remember 4.10s are weaker than 3.73s in a 10 bolt.

I installed them in a car that had 2.73s stock. Big difference in before and after.

I'm running an A4 w 4.56s' for 3 years now, picked up a used set of Richmonds at a swap meet for $25. Installed them(I work on rearends) and have not thought twice about it. Low end pickup is phenominal, top speed is around 140,and gas mpg turned out to be better than anticipated. The OEM 3.23s gave me 24.5mpg on 6 trips to Florida from Cleveland,3 trips to Florida with the 4.56s' gave me 21.5mpg. Those figures are for travelling at freeway LEGAL speeds.
After I do a tranny swap (broken sprag),I'll also be replacing the TCI 2800 with a Yank SS3600,and run that with the 4.56s' for a while, then go to 4.10s' in the rearend I'm currently building.

I also don't see a problem with 4.10's with these overdrive transmissions. Back in the day I had 4.10 gears in my '77 Trans-Am with a turbo 400. With no overdrive I was running 3500 to 3600 rpm at 60mph.

I have good prices on the gears and the install kit at the above link. Bob

I'll be switching from the 4.56s'(even though I don't want to switch because of the 4.56 factor on the street) to the 4.10s' to avoid having to use 4th gear at the end of the 1/4 mile.
