How about the automakers that mainly build AWD cars...then for some strange reason they're higher performance cars are RWD converts...porshe rs, and the few lambos.

I won't call this a dumb idea, but read through the OPs other posts...I don't get the sense of an engineer or even a fabricator. This is a lofty dream that few people will ever attempt. AWD isn't needed on these cars. I've driven my car in every condition possible...it did fine. Sure AWD will preform better if you think driving at normal speeds is fine in the snow/ rain. But remember...won't help you stop faster

Once you have traction, awd is a loss not a gain; it adds extra mass and moment of inertia. That's why the main race series that uses awd is rally. GM is very practically minded in terms of powertrains and awd is not practical for most driving situations. IIRC they had included an interesting awd system in the ugly as sin Aztek. It was a fwd transmission that had a transfercase and a driveshaft back to the rear wheels. The rear wheels were only active when the front wheels started to slip.

It still amazes me they run the front half shaft through the oil pan on the Trailblazers.

gm had a test mule in the late 80's it was a camaro awd looked stock outside but aside from a few pictures under the hood and rear seems they didnt want anyone to see.. (might not have mattered since ive seen several of these cars and even early production parts used look only similar to what rolls off the line)
