Metal fileings

Metal fileings
So I am changing my gear oil in the rear end, just because i have 250,000 miles on my car. Chevy repaired it when I had about 50,000 miles and replaced the oil so the oil is very old and in need of a change. I called the local Chevy Stealer and he quoted me $169 to replace the oil!! I bought the oil, limited slip additive and gasket for $16, what a joke chevy $169. I removed the pan and on the magnet were some metal fileings, they are very very fine, when I mushed them between my fingers they turned to paste. Does anyone think I have anything serious to worry about? Thanx to any who reply.

no, a small amount of that "paste" is normal. Shards or large flakes would be something to worry about. Just make sure to get most or all of it out if you can, clean the cover and the bottom of the diff itself
