Depends on many factors.
Engine- ???
Drive Train- ???
Race Weight- ???
What type of Race- ???
Type of Forced Induction- ???
See where I am getting at, You need to provide more info.
IMO Gearing is there to get you into your powerband quicker. In almost all cases, if the car is tabling off well before redline, the setup is choked off.

Yup, cam selection is huge, along with redline and tire size and the MPH you're trying to achieve. The GENERAL rule of thumb on a drag car is to run as much gear AND tire as possible. Gear choice is one of the last things to decide when putting a project together. If you're currently dragging you'll need to do some math on a calculator and select a gear and tire size that will have you redlining your 1:1 (4th for m6) gear at the traps.
My setup has 4.10's.
