Default Price of gear swap work?

I was qouted a price of $350 for my gears and master kit installation ( I provide the gears)at a local rear end shop. This price does not include a tune, they said I would have to go to the dealer to get the speedo calibrated.

I visited a newly opened performance shop 20 miles from my house. He did not give me an exact quote, but did say that the typical install averages $400- $500 and I am assuming this includes a speedo calibration.

Do these prices seem fair to you? Does anyone know what a dealer would charge to calibrate the speedometer?

I'm having a swap done as we speak, $305 labor not counting install kit and fluid, which I provided.
You don't want to go to a dealer for a calibration. Any tune shop can do it. Should be cheap and quick.

That is a very good price for a gear install with the install kit provided that the person knows what they are doing. Ring & Pinion install the correct way is very labor intensive

my local GM dealer wanted $580...i luaghed at them, and another speed shop wanted $480, laughed at him too. Theres one more speed shop i heard of around here that does em for $250 so ill go there, doing mine next week. so $305 is a good price i think....go for it.

That is an exceptional price.

I don't charge that little, depending on vehicle and diff anywhere from 300 to 425 for the labor.
Every diff is different and gear changes on some diffs even require odd work sometimes.

I do them cheap, free for buddies (with them helping) the first time around. Second time around and the same guy I get them to trade up for something. Last one was a magna-flow cat-back. For less then the price of labor for one, you can buy the tools and do it yourself. I think I spent around $200-$250 for everything including 12 ton press, and I been a rear-end rebuilding fool ever since. Plus I save all my buddies from getting *** raped at local shops. Everyone who hangs out with me has gears

I have a buddy that just charges labor his trades are too much for me haha, he has a mud truck.

Hes setting up my 8.8 right now for $150, but its out of the car. He did gears in my dads truck (front and rear + replaced balljoints) for $400. No gear whine, perfectly quiet. Hope mine is done tomorrow, it will be weird having a quiet rear end
