Strange 12 Bolt Just Installed
I must say it was straightforward, and Strange puts together a quality unit. There were no adjustments and no hang ups. The only bummer was that one of the brake backing plates was completely smashed up. I'm sure it was the freight company, not Strange who did this. Richie and I heated it up and pounded and pried into a shape close to what it was supposed to look like.
Road test: The break-in is a pain in the ***, but I'll do it. It says not to "accelerate harshly, drive for 50 miles, let cool for 30 minutes, and repeat until you reach 250 miles." I won't be able to do this in one swoop.
I was paranoid of loud gear whine, but it only becomes apparent at 70mph in 6th. It does get a bit loud, especially if I let up on the gas or hold the speed steady. When I took it up past 70, the whine faded. The only other issue is a little rattle I hear in the rear when I hit the "rumble strips" on the lane markings on the highway. Not sure what that is.
Overall, I am happy. Nittos will be ordered next week! And it's time to change my sig!

So basically with the Strange unit you purchased, you can simply swap it out for the 10-bolt without having to make any adjustment to the gears? Are you going to change the fluid after 500 miles?
In the event my 10-bolt explodes, I'm want to look for a unit I can install myself without having to setup any gears.
Thanks for the info.

I've been very happy with my Strange!

Any gear whine from yours? I'm pretty cool that mine gets noisy at ~70 only.
Thanks.

This is "plug and play" all the way. Moser doesn't come this way, that's one of the reasons I went with Strange. Also, Moser has been known not to set up the ring and pinion perfectly.
My instructions were to change the diff fluid at 1,000 miles, and not to use synthetic. I wonder why that is.
****, a Ford Lightning truck wanted to "play with me" yesterday, and I had to back off! The guy had lettering on his window like he had just took it to the track. This break in period is killing me. It's just as well though, my tires are bald, and I'm looking for the best deal on NIttos.

You may want to inspect the gears if the whine is really loud. They did a bad install with mine and used gm motive gears (I was waiting for the rear end to come because they didn't have gears... someone thru in gm motive and shipped it). Needless to say it looked like the teeth on the carrier had been put thru a mill after 150 miles. I had a harsh whine(louder than the stereo) from 55-70mph.
