Default 12Bolt or 9", which one?

Hey guys I have a 99 Camaro SS M6 with some bolt ons and probobly a cam on the way in the near future. So being a 6spd should I get a 12Bolt or a 9"? I don't want to spend over 2G on something and have it break!! Which one will hold up to the 5K dumps better at the drag strip with slicks? I am looking at the new T-Rex cam from thunder racing being I only drive my car maybe 2 times a week on the street, otherwise it is at the track. Back to the rearend I just want the more durable one that I wont have to worry about. thanks for the help.

Its simple. M6 car with power= 9". I went with a 12 bolt, and they just don't hold up. They auto guys don't seem to have any problems with 12 bolts. I could give you a list of quick M6 cars around here that have had problems with them. Mine never broke, but the gear noise after about 10 hard launches just sucks. Have seen a bunch of posi units and spyder gears do this>>>> I have sold my 12 bolt and my 9" with 35 spline axles, locker, and 4.56 gears should be in on Monday.

So it is safe to summarize by saying:

DR's--> 12 Bolt ok, but can only launch at 3500?

Slicks---> 9 inch, launch at 6k+..?

Man, I just put in my Strange yesterday. So I should stay away from slicks? I have 3 channel ABS so I decided not to go with the 9" since I want to keep the ABS operable.

I launched between 4-5000 rpm on my 12 bolt, depending on track conditions and never broke it. As for the gear noise, now that's a different story..........

I have a 9" waiting to be installed. I'll post-up in a couple weeks as to how the swap goes.

Me too, bad thing is getting a DS made. Ive got to install the 9", take my measurements, then put the old 10 back in so i can drive the 3 weeks it might take to get the ds built.

I ordered the full spool. and i daily drive my car. from the guys Ive talked to they said that the spool will only make binding noises when trying to turn sharp corners, or making u-turns. do a search for spool and read up. i spent so much time reading up trying to decide what i wanted.

If you are running a spool the 12 bolt is fine. Mine held up to 1.50 sixties and 6000rpm dumps
