Default 3.42s

I have a 98 TA A4 with 2.73s and I have just managed to buy a set of used 3.42 geras from a 98 TA M6,

This is quite a find in the UK and to show how thin on the ground they are these are the same gears I bought off CamaroZ28.com from a USA 98 TA owner about 5 years ago and sold to a mate who still had them.

I checked the part number and they are 12:41 GM 26050890 XXX and they are definatly 3 series gears.

So they won't fit my 2 series carrier without a spacer which was what I used to put them in my 95 Z28 5 years ago. I can't afford a 3 series carrier or a set of 2 series thicker 3.42 or 3.73 gears.

I know this is a worthwile swap and when I put them in the 95 Z28 the differnce was like night and day it really woke the car up and dropped me .3 of a second at the track.

I know some of you guys don't like using a spacer for this swap but I know from experience that they work fine for swapping 3 series gears into a 2 series carrier. Show me a thread where a spacer caused an axleto fail!

I did a search on spacers and found a couple for sale on here one quite recent and one from 2010.

Does anyone on here have a spacer and longer bolts they are willing to sell I will put a want ad in the classifieds aswell but it is more likely to be seen here.

Remember I live in the UK so shipping will be higher which I will pay and I have PayPal for paymentin US Dollars.

I have a good buyer/seller rating on here and a 316 star Ebay rating with 100% feedback

Sorry for the long post.

A question I do have is what happens if you do this swap without a tune is it just your speedo is off or does it effect gears changes for an auto?

Yes it effects your gear changes as shifts are determined by mph which will be reading incorrectly.
