Default What gear oil for.....

An eaton hd posi unit? Synthetic or non? Additive or no additive?

I'd go Synthetic and Additive.

Non-synthetic plus additive is what I've been told is the only combination that should be run with an Eaton. It's what I've been running in mine for the better part of the past 4 years or so.

MeentSS02 hit it on the head but I would suggest using Fords friction modifier.

I've been told this as well, but am still unsure why...I'm assuming it just has better properties than the GM friction modifier, but I still don't really know why it is preferred.

I use the Ford stuff as well and boy does have a FOUL smell. Summit sell it for a great price.
