Default is my 10 bolt toast? can it still be driven

ok well heres what its doing....

for the past few months, the 10 bolt in my stock M6 z28 would pop every now and then during slow tight corners......this morning, i pull out of a parking space, then once i start moving it popped/banged 3 times in 2 seconds or so....every time it popped, the car would shutter/surge.......it started to do it more and more around turns....then when i was doing 70 on the highway, it popped 5-6 times, each pop perfectly a second apart from each other......llater, around more turns it would pop and surge about 3/4 times after coming out of turns.....then on another highway, for id say 30 seconds, perfectly one second apart from each other, i could feel the "PASSENGER SIDE ONLY" poping, and the car surged everytime......it only pops when in gear on the throttle.........i then was about 1/4 mile from my house, and in 3rd with the rpms around 3000, i would just punch it, and everytime i did that, it would pop and bang.....any idea what it is? im assuming the differential is slipping.....now im goona be getting an s60 in about a month, and i was wondering if the car is safe to drive an hour away to my buddies house with a lift.....thanks in advance

Well do yourself a favor and pop the cover off and see what the carnage looks like. Sounds like the clutches are toast. Wait what year is the car? Do you know if its a Auburn or torsen?

chipped/missing gear teeth. Mine is doing the exact same thing right now. It made the occasional pop while turning for the past couple months. Just this morning it got as bad as what your describing. Im looking into a replacement now.

A busted 10 bolt isn't going to bring $100

i think if a ten bolt just needs new gears or a new unit it should bring 100 for a local pickup

not likely you can buy a whole 10 bolt complete rear end for a good 250 to 300 dollars and thats a 4 channel one.

a busted 10 bolt is pretty much scrap metal.
