Default 8.8 questions..

Ive been trying to read and research as much as i can but for budget reasons if i were to get a 8.8 out of a mustang im assuming they have 28 spline differentials would my stock lt1 28 spline axles slide right in and work.

ill be having a shop weld my tubes to the 8.8 housing and all that.

but if i were to do it can anybody give me tips on how u heated the tubes up before welding?

but mainly just wanna know if i can use my stock fbody axles?

Stock 28 spline axles fit the 28 spline 8.8 centers

I didnt pre-heat my axle tubes, but i did weld in short beads opposing sides to prevent warping. I didnt measure any warpage on the end result

Most important thing about the job is setting the tube depth correctly. Measure your 10 bolt axle flange to brake flange and WRITE IT DOWN

here is my old rearend that you are wanting to build, it talks about the button i had machined on the stock gm axles since there is alittle slop between the ford and gm.. http://www.mifbody.com/vbulletin/sho...DY!&highlight=

Not sure what you're talking about there on the buttons. My axles had LESS slop in the 8.8 diff than the old 10 bolt diff. Neither were remotely close to dropping a C-clip

If your welder can't figure out what he needs to use then find one who can.
