Default My 9 Inch Ford Install

I've posted these pictures elsewhere but they may not be otherwise available to someone considering and searching for a 9" Ford kit. I believe I would have done this mod much earlier had I seen or had the chance to deal with one. Everything was pretty much a bolt in. We chose the 3.50 gear as I am approaching 1,000 rwtq right now. Anything less just seems to make the lower gears useless. We also went with the 35 spline Wavetrace differential. The kit contains 300 mm stubs and axle shafts and stronger CVS assemblies. We had installed 33 spline outer hubs while running the spool on the OEM differential so we kept them. All in all I like the setup, it just feels solid. Enjoy the pictures.

As I said, installation took only a couple of hours, the control arms were replaced, they had nothing to do with the kit but that took the longest.

As you can see we already had the GForce1320 coil overs and the mini tub kit installed by SNL Performance.

Got the differential and axles back in today. GForce1320 remachined the bearing races and changed the stub bearings. Neater setup and cleaner.

Wavetrac took a **** with less than 1000 miles and 4 passes at 60% throttle. Warranty would only fix it once be3cause of the trans brake and 90+ rwhp. New Strange S-Trac going in.

With the space limitations for the posi unit inside a 9 inch and correspondingly small physical size of the units, I don't think any posi will live with your power and setup at the track. S-Track is a gear type posi, those don't handle large shock loads very well, you need a Spool. The whole setup looks Great btw.
900+ rwhp and 1110 rwtq was max. Averaged around 900 rwhp + and 1000 + rwtq. Wavetrac started howling before breakin was up. Gears and everything were okay. When they broke it down they saw the debris from the Wavetrac had ruined the bearings etc. Moser was very gracious but told me they would only fix it this time, then no more warranty, not even limited. That wasn't what I paid for so I am just looking elsewhere. Supposedly getting a refund for the wavetrac. be interesting to see how much. As I recall the original unit was $995.

Not sure if it was the power or the trans brake or the 3500 lbs weight of the car or all three that they based the decision on. If I were running 500-600 whp I would have probably stayed with them providing they would support their warranty with the trans brake. As it was, the response wasn't what I invested in. Truth is it will probably take a spool to hold my power.

I don't see why it wouldn't be covered. Reading over their warranty, it says nothing about power or specific parts and says it covers racing applications. That is pretty bad. I hope the S-Trac works out for you.

They were very gracious, do not misunderstand. They even offered to fix it, one time. I was frankly surprised too. Most other GTO's at my level seem to be running the 8.8 Ford units with Auburn or S-Trac and no issue. I don't think any of them are running the Wavetrac. Let me repeat, if I were below about 600 whp, did not launch off a trans brake, and had no issues with further warrantying the unit, I would have stuck with them.

Thanks. There are at least 3-4 out there running S-Tracs without issue At least 4 GTO's are in the 8's running on IRS 8.8 and 9 inch ford rear ends with other brand Posi's. Non of them are running spools. Problem with our IRS cars and the spools is they begin to break the LCA's. If I go to a spool, it will be with an SRA most likely. Before I do that I wanted to run what the mainstream high end GTO's are running. Also, I think I can peel another 300-400 lbs off the car, thought I would see if getting the weight down some more would help.

The hell of it is my OEM Dana held the power for three years and approximately 3000 pretty hard miles, quite a few on the OEM GTO Posi, and that was on an M6. I would have never dreamed putting a Ford 9 inch in it would introduce a single point of failure.
