10 Bolt gear swap
Eventually swapping out to a 9" rear but for now gonna do a gear swap. Thinking 3:90's . any tips on brands for gears, supporting cover and install kits? don't wanna dump to much into it seeing as how it will be changed at some point.

I've been told you can built a 10 bolt just as strong as a 9 inch. If this is true build the one u have. It will bolt right in and come out cheaper in the long run. If I'm incorrect someone let me know because I was wanting to build my 10 bolt.

Depending on your application, you can build a 10 bolt and it will last a little while longer than stock. If you have an M6, I wouldn't even consider wasting money on it. If you have an auto, it will last a while. Again, it depends on your application.
OP, I don't have much advice for you. Just wanted to clear up some misinformation. I did, however, see this rear cover http://www.proformparts.com/product-...ategory_id/298
It's supposed to be cheaper than the usual T/A girdle, although for some reason they don't list a price in that link. Are you M6 or A4?

Jegs has some good prices, I bought Richmond 4.10's, Moser axles, a Truetrac diff, girdle cover, wheel studs, and a richmond mega install kit (timken bearings) so my rear end was stripped down to a bare housing and built with complete new components all for around 1000. (Insurance paid for it as I was hit in the rear, so it wasn't technically my $ before I get flamed for 'putting money into a 10 bolt')
It works great for me so far, btw.

Im getting ready to build a 9" and i have it priced to come in at less than $1,500 for everything, that includes rebuilding the center section and adjustable lca's, i think i would rather do that than put the money into that 10 bolt
