Default Pinion Bearing Cup Removal - GM 10-bolt

When removing pinion bearing cups (races) with a punch, how hard do you ordinarily need to hit them? I知 worried about jamming the cups at an angle and distorting or damaging the case. I知 using a bronze punch and a 16-ounce hammer. I have been alternating from side to side in the slots in the case. So far the cups haven稚 budged and I知 reluctant to hit them any harder. Any advice will be appreciated.

use a long steel punch and hit the crap out if them i have rebuild ford and gm rears for a long time (probably over 100) and you need to move them, you will not hurt the case. just go slow on the setup and preload ALL your new bearings.. good luck..

Thanks bluehawk - the steel punch worked like a charm.
