Question on the rearend the stamped code/numbers...

i just purchased a 98 firebird with a ls1 swap. the RPO says the car came with LSD/POSI-traction G80 however i did a 2second burnout and my friend says only my passenger side was spinning while the driver side was gradually picking up speed. the driveshaft's a one piece FWIW but i dont know if the rearend is the stock 134k miles or if the original owner(im the 4th owner) swapped the rear out with something else. i imagine theres a stamping on the rearend, i did a quick search as well as checked the stickied links above in this thread but did not find anything involving how to tell what rearend is based on whatever is stamped on the rearend.

any help is greatly appreciated!

pop the rears' cover and post a pic of the carrier showing the carriers' internals, best way to really tell what's in there.

noob question as i never owned or worked on a RWD. if i remove the rear's cover that'd would drain the fluid as well and would need refilled correct?

refilled, yes, and possibly/probably gasket replacement. It's good to re-fresh rear lube occasionally. If you're lucky/careful,cover might seperate from housing with gasket intact.
Cover will have magnet inside and might appear overly covered with metal,it's just doing its' job.
Fill plug is on passenger side on the upper half, fill to that level thru that port. Plug should be removeable with the square drive of a ratchet.

Sounds good. Thanks. Any torque specs on the bolts for the rear cover?

bolts are only 5/16-18 SAE american thread,so torque can't be too high for a little 5/16 bolt.
