'00' trans am rear end
Car....
00' Trans Am. Not WS6. 180k mi. All factory stock. Daily driver
Problems......loud whine..almost goes away in right curve/turn
Sometimes the rear won't lock both tires.
Questions.....
What RE do I have?
Gears ratio?
I'm guessing I have to replace the rear end and all bearings
What are my options?
Factory or aftermkt?
Rebuild it?
I want to keep factory ratio......mostly due to not wanting to lose fuel mileage

if you don't plan on doing any racing with the car I would rebuild it.
*get a real good used or new AAM ring and pinion set. This is what the factory used and is much better than most of the aftermarket gears that will make noise.
*get a Eaton posi unit first... very durable and rebuildable.
*replace all the bearings and seals
*use a solid pinion spacer to set pinion bearing preload instead of a crush sleeve.
*install a LPW rear girdle cover instead of the factory sheet metal one.
it will cost ya a few bucks if you do it right this way, but if you don't abuse the car at all it will last a long time. Give us a call if you need help with these parts... we have a real good deal on anything for your f-body rearend and suspension.
