Default Traction with 4.10s and street tires

I've been debating 4:10s for a while. For those that have them with street tires, how is traction in first gear and launching?

Im on the stock 3:42 gears now and traction is decent. I don't want to run drag radials and would rather just stick with a good street tire.

Would I just end up spinning a lot if I went 4:10s? And o understand this is dependent on how much power a car makes.

You will spin.... I have a bolt on car and had 4:10s in the 10bolt.. With street tires it would just blow them off anything under 30.

I had a stock 99 WS6 with 3:42s and 315/35-17s and it spun them a pretty good bit also.

With 3.73s it's very hard to hook in first, you sometimes have to baby the throttle, depending on the weather. This is with brand new kuhmos, not slicks...but still decent brand new tires. With 4.10s you'll probably spin like crazy..You just have to adjust your foot/pedal driving, sticky tires, and you'll be fine.

I have 285/40/17 street tires and with 4.11's, mine will spin in 1st nearly all the time especially under a hard launch. That said, You have to modulate the throttle to avoid lighting them up. Once it gets really hot out and traction improves, occasionally they will hook if you ease out and floor it but never hook after a clutch dump, ever.

I have actually been thinking about going back to 3.90's to help reduce the loss of traction in 1st when banging on it. If your on drags, they hook well nearly every time assuming its warm to hot outside.

BTW I am making almost 400RWHP.

Traction...what's that?

I had 4.10s before I went to a different rear (3.73 gears in it), and in 1st gear it would roast the tires easy. It takes a lot more practice to launch well and not spin with 4.10s than the 3.73 gears that I have now. Although, when I could hook with the 4.10s it was lovely.
If you drive on the highway a decent amount, I'd recommend 3.73s. The 4.10s killed my driveability on the freeway

Traction with 4.10s entirely depends on your right foot, sure if you stomp on it you'll roast the tires. If you control your launch and maintain traction 4.10s work great. I went from 2.2x to 2.004 60' on the same tires going from 3.42 to 4.10s. I'm thinking about 4.30s now in aftermarket rear.

You will spin easily in 1st with street tires, if you had traction chances are you would break something anyway. I stay away from WOT 1st gear n/a and definitly dont spray nitrous till im in 3rd. You would think you buy 4.10's and then sticky tires to get good traction and just luanch that thing but with our cars unless you upgrade the rear to a 8.8, 9 or 12 you will more then likely cause some damage.

No point in putting traction behind a ten bolt, it's just going to go pow anyways.

With 4.10s your gonna be all over the road if you are playing around on the street that is. On my a4 with 2.73s on street tires I always have to take it easy when I launch on the street because my car slides side to side if I don't

It will be a adjustment for sure. If you have a heavy foot prob shouldnt do it

i have a v6(far from stock).... and i cant floor it in 1st at all with 3.73's. i have to pedal it till i hit 2nd even then itll start to break loose depending on the road. just get a good wide tire like a 295 or a 315 and youll be fine but 4.10s eat gas if your auto

when i was cam only, my car made 383rwhp, and im running nitto NT-01's, in the spring/summer time, i could mash the throttle in first and theyd spin a little, then hook and go... now, im porcharged, and 1st gear is completely useless....... so is second in the cooler weather... im dropping down to a 3.89 gear with the read end i ordered.
