Default How the HELL does this happen?

Someone PLEASE explain this to me, 'cause I am failing to understand how it happened. I turned my car in for engine work, 2 days later had to have the tranny rebuilt, and 2 days after that my freakin' rear locked up and snapped the driveshaft. I am so furious right now!

Gotta give us a bit more information than that.

Why did you take it in for engine work, and what was done?

What was going on in the tranny that it needed rebuilt?

Did you install a different length DS? Your pinion teeth have dug into the differential, I'm guessing that is how your DS snapped?

Pinion bearings had a catastrophic failure or the pinion nut backed off. Did you recently have a pinion seal replaced?

Well, I didn't think the engine and tranny details were relevant, but the engine was rebuilt because it was tapping bad, the tranny was rebuilt because the synchros were fried and one of the bearings was toast. The DS is stock, but how could it have possibly pushed the pinion gear backwards? The pinion gear is very tight....

No, I never had it replaced. What could cause a pinion bearing to have a catastrophic failure?

Improper preload, abuse, low oil, high heat, all kinds of things.

Wow, so I guess I'll probably never know for sure what caused it.

Well, based on your tranny issues that were corrected, I'd say it had something to do with abuse

You're probably right. I'm just pissed that everything happened at once, I guess, and at the fact that I've had the car for 4 years with no tranny or rearend issues.

Don't jinx yourself man. Just make sure you take care of it, and keep the proper fliuds in there! If it does, then you have an excuse to get a 9"!

That's why I have a mod fund, in case something like this happens. I was gonna use it to buy some wheels, but now I need the rear a bit more than bling.
