Default Exploded 10 Bolt

I joined the ranks of a stock 10 bolt expolding at the track yesterday. Thank god I had AAA 200 mile towing. Even before I drove to the track I had a feeling this could be the day, I wasn't disappointed. It was 3 years in the making since the whining was getting louder & louder. Any recommendations out there on a replacement?? I drag race the car(98 T/A) about 3 - 4 times a year, 335 rwhp & something that will handle 1.6, 1.5 60ft's. I also have the Spohn Adjustable Torque Arm, I would like to continue to use that. I probably have 300 passes on this car, I guess I was lucky for a long time. Thanks

There are a ton options out there so make sure to do plenty of looking to see what fits your budget, and your build. I have dealt with both Midwest Chassis and Performance as well as Moser. Both companies do a great job and could no doubt get you taken care of.

Throw another 10 bolt in it. Auto car can get alot of passes on them. Unless you plan on throwing some serious cash at.

I keep a spare 10 bolt in my shed. My current one i've been beating on for years and it doesn't even whine yet.

Thanks for the advice, I have actually had good luck with the stock 10 bolt. I will try to find one somewhere.

If your doing 335 rwhp and an A4, no real future HP mods...I wouldn't drop the coin.

Seems to me that the M6 and 400+ hp they don't last long at all. My third setup lasted 15k, just bought an S60. For me, I don't mind having the insurance.

The 10b wasn't a bad axle in the leaf sprung suspension era. Now with torque arm mounted to the housing & more hp just puts enough twist on the housing...just doesn't hold up to much abuse.

Mine sounds like a whipple too after the 3.73 gear swap - immediately after installed with used gears - it doesn't mean it's gonna blow. If they are not set right this can happen too though. Mine were professionally installed and he told me this might happen with used gears. Something about backlash I believe.

I have a buddy with a Nova that is running low 13, high 12s (not bad for a mild 400 sbs at 5k ft of elevation) and does really well with his 10B. He also is running MT slicks.

10 bolts in the GM past were/are strong, don't compare/associate those with our puny 7.5/7.625 10 bolt.
GM 8.2 10 bolt 1964-1972
GM 8.5/8.625 10 bolt 1970-1996 also used on Buick 84-87 Grand National. Only 3/8" smaller than the 8.875 12 bolt

So with proper install. Perfect backlash. And new gears(with proper break in period) I should be good from and whine? I dnt want my car to sound like I have a Whipple unless I ACTUALLY have one! Lmao
