Default 12-Bolt from a truck

A buddy of mine has a 12-bolt (just the pumpkin) that came off of a pick up, it is rebuilt with 4.56 gears in it. What would it take to put in my car, and is it even worth it?

You could order the 12 bolt housing and axle package, then install the gears and differential from that 12 bolt. Since both of your cars have manual transmissions, I'd skip a 12 bolt and go with a nine inch. The link here explains why. http://shop.brutespeed.com/Brute-Spe...nformation.htm Bob

I know the 9" is a monster, but this car is my daily driver and won't be run at the track very much. I just figured if I could get my hands on a 12-bolt at a fraction of the cost, it'd be worth biting the bullet on.

The problem for trying to install non specific 12 bolts and 9 inch rears into these cars is the torque arm. There is no real easy cheap way to do it. Bob

Agreed with Bob. You'd be better to steal the guts and install them into a prefabbed housing made for your car. I personally chose a Strange and would recommend them.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe the ring & pinion from a truck 12-bolt and car 12-bolt are not interchangeable...

Truck guts will not work in Car housing.

Trucks have a smaller pinion shaft. And 12 bolts do not have a "pumpkin." If you pulled the guts out of one 12 bolt and put them in another you would still have to set up the ring and pinion and all the preloads. Not easy to do if you don't have the tools.
