Default Identify this unit please

Is this a factory posi from an LT1 car? If so, how does it compare to the LS1 posi? I got a free 10 bolt from an LT1 car, and it took me a sec to figure out how to get the axles out. lol

It's a 3 channel abs Auburn diff which is more durable than a torsen but in the long run it's still a 7.5 piece of junk that we all have to deal with.

Yea i know. Ive catastrophicly destroyed 2 of them in the past before switching to an S60. Now im just going for gas mileage and drivability. Im even putting 2.73's in it.

Im doing the setup. I just use white lithium grease to see the pattern. It's always worked before.

Thats a more durable carrier than a torsen because you dont have to worry about those 4 bolts coming loose & or breaking that are on the torsen. I put one in my 10 bolt when I had it, knew someone that had a bunch of Fbodys & parts & didnt cost me anything. Mine handled a lot of track passes & never broke. Posi worked great too. I dont think they are rebuildable though but I would run it.

Going down (numerically) in ratio doesn't always equal better mpg. I got better mpg out of my 98 going to a 3.42 rear axle from its stock 3.08 which I didn't expect. It wasn't a 1/2 mpg either, but a solid 2mpg increase on the highway.

Being that it's a 3 series carrier,a 2.73/3.08 gearset(2 series carrier required) WILL NOT be usable. You're limited to 3.23 as the lowest numerically.

Im having a hard time deciding between buying 3.23's and buying a 2 series posi.

since you had to go to S60,what are your mods that required the strenght of an S60 ?
if you're heavily modded,2.73 might not be 'drivability' friendly.

for a stock LS1 A4,real world freeway legal speed mpgs' are
2.73-25.9
3.08-24.7
3.23-24.5
3.42-23.8
3.73-23.0
4.10-22.2

Im well aware that 2.73's wont like a big cam/stall. i took the cam/stall out of the car and went with a more streetable setup.

I bought the s60 when i had plans for 1000+hp then had a daughter.

And i consistantly got 26-28mpg's with 3.23's when the car was exhaust only.

With the mods removed,2.73s' would be 'stock friendly'. Since setup would be required in either situation, you didn't state what you have on hand to build a rear. From this post,we know you have a 3 series Auburn differential.
Is your car 3 channel ABS or 4 channel ABS & TC ?
