Default Auburn Gear Differential Installation

I'm considering replacing my 1998 Camaro's stock differential with Auburn Gear differential part #542041. If I do, will I also need to purchase the Auburn Gear Differential Service Kit part #541011? Thanks for you input.

Default Auburn Gear Installation

I have done some research on this and read other post regarding this and I understand that a Detroit Truetrac would be a better component and is cheaper than the auburn. The auburn is similar to the original setup and if i understand it correctly??, the original is basically the same as the auburn, so you wouldnt gain very much. It is always recommended to get the install kit when you swap any rear end components, due to tolerances and setups.

the 541011 is a service kit,NOT an installation kit. It is for 'rebuilding' the 'spiders' of an existing broken Auburn.
the 542041 is 2 series carrier for 2.73 & 3.08 gears only.
the 542040 is 3 series carrier for 3.23 & 3.42 (also 3.73,3.90,4.10,4.30,4.56).

They don't make a Trutrac for the 10 bolt, OP what gears/setup do you have now? You should already have an Auburn diff in your 98 model. Are you auto or M6?

Default Auburnn Differential

I have a M6 transmission. I bought the car new. From what I remember, the Auburn differentialm was only available on the SS, and not the Z28.

Nope, all 98s got it. After that it was an option bc 99+ got Torsens as standard equipment.
