BYE BYE REAR, anyone wanna give their .02?
so i have a 2000z28 that i daily drive the hell out of. 172k+ miles on her. motor runs great and doesnt leak a bit, trans feels ok. i left from a red light and hammered it it got good traction and i hit second and merged and all kids of bad vibrations and noise. pulled over and there was a nice quarter sized hole in the top of the TA diff cover.
so i am thinking rebuild it. i am not sure if i want to go to 373 or 410's. i havent pulled the cover off yet to look at the carnage, i had it towed to a buddies garage and i'll be dealing with it soon.
i am sad but this car doesnt owe me a damn thing. its not going anywhere either. one day i will break it down and build a moster out of it, but that day is far away with 2 young kids right now. so i am thinking stock rebuild with gears rather than going to moser and dropping major coin.
so what do you guys think on gear selection, car is an m6. stock cover vs TA style cover. i have the stock one but could buy another after market one if it makes a difference. also any input on mileage and how much longer shes gonna go. other than needing a little front end work, tie rods alignment type **** she seems to be solid.

personally i wouldnt waste the money in building a stock 10 bolt again or trying to make a 10 bolt a monster.. if you could swing it i would look at the classifieds for used 9 inchs or 12 bolts. or look into the dana rear.. they are alot cheaper then the 9 inch and is stronger

well when it comes time to rebuild the car the way i want the rear will go. i just really dont want to swing that kind of cash right now, if i dont need to. i dont take the car to the track. just some blasts on the street here and there. i know the 10 bolt will never be a monster.

Just get a junkyard one like everyone has been saying or maybe just do a stock rebuild. From reading your post if you're on pretty much stock power the 10 bolt should last another 100k if you're nice to it I am almost at 100k right now and mine is fine. I changed the fluid in it last summer and there was hardly any metal flakes in it.
