Moser 9" questions
i may be getting a new moser 9" from a friend of a friend. i have a few questions. i assume the stock drive shaft will work with it, is that correct? will the stock torque arm work with it? stock panhard rod? does the stock sway bar fit? any other issues that i should be aware of?
thanks,
Bill

The driveshaft length works, but you may need a 1350 yoke attachement.
Stock Torque Arm OK, Panhard, OK, I'm not sure about the sway bar. It may fit with 3" U-clamps, but I'm not sure.

The stock sway bar WILL fit, with a little work. I have the BMR weld on sway bar mounts w/poly bushings and end links, for the stock sway bar. After the install the bar hit one of the tubes for the torque arm mount. The solution, 2) 1/4" aluminum plates, drilled out to match the bolt holes on the sway bar mount. Put the plates between the mount, and the bushing bracket, and its all good. No hitting. You will have to get longer bolts than the one that came with the BMR kit to make up for the aluminum plates. Good luck.

Im prett sure you can. I heard about one guy who had problems with the top of the housing bumping...but a hammer fixed that. No clue what springs he had though... if any at all. As far as I know your back end actually gets a tiny bit taller due to the fatter axle shafts, so yeah lowering it shouldnt be a problem.

stock drive shaft will work, just need to buy a u-joint 1310/1350 conversion. napa sells them. stock panhard rod will work, stock torque arm will fit, stock sway bar will fit, but need to buy spohn clamps since the axle housing on the Moser are like double the size of the stock one. I am lowered on hotchkiss springs (1in lower) and the top of my torque arm mount bolt hits the bottom of the car whenever i go over big bump. just have to be careful and ease into the bumps. overall i love the rear and has taken tremendous abuse if u need a pics of the height of the car after my 9in i have some for u to look at

I'd love to see em caliboyTA. One of my buddies said I could pull a moser off some truck in a junk yard and it'll bolt right up. Is this true? Can I find a 9" with posi and like 3.73's or 3.23's or 3.42's? If this is true, it'll be dirt cheap and definitely worth it right? I just gotta find someone to help me do it.

No way. People spend almost what it costs for a new moser in making all the jigs and buying the tools or hiring someone to make it for them. To make it work, you would have to narrow it, then re-spline the axles, fab some LCA mounts so that it makes a good pinion angle, create a torque arm mount, make brake backing plates, and a handfull of other stuff. Too bad there isnt a vehicle to yank a 9 inch off of though.
What your buddy was probly referring to was pulling the center section (i.e. chunk, hogs head, third member, center section) and using that in a housing/axle kit from moser. That is a cheap way to go and the way that I am going to go. You save about $1600 that way! What you want to look for is 31 spline (which came in bigger trucks...maybe broncos, and most big block cars) not 28 spline...like F150 and small block mustangs (if they weren't an 8inch. $400 for a smoking deal, and $650 for a decent deal on a rebuilt chunk with a locker, what ever gears, and new internals. Also, make sure it has a Daytona pinion support.

You need to stick a pry bar up where it is tight, and gently pull the sheetmetal over to the side. It is easy to do, and you won't notice where you have pryed it over. You need to have thw eight of the car on the tires when you do this, so that you know where it is tight, and also to have something to pry against. Bob
