Default A dumb question but I have to ask

There is no debate that the stock 10 bolt is too weak to handle much rwhp over stock and even then might break if abused. So our choices are rearends such as the Moser 12 bolt, nine inch, and even the 8.8 because each has significantly more strength than the 10 bolt.

So if the gear is too small (weak) then it appears as if there is enough room inside the case to make the gear larger - perhaps from 7.5 up to 8 inches or even 8.5 if the housing could be clearanced to fit a gear with an 8.5 diameter instead of 7.5. Is it because of pinion gear and its location?

Sorry if the question is laughable but would like to know why it hasn't been tried.

I don't think that this is a dumb question at all; in fact, I'm glad that you asked it. I'd like to know the answer, also, and I'll look forward to seeing what other more knowledgeable than myself have to offer.

Thanks for posting!

Seems to me that modifying the case (if even doable) would be more work and expense then simply swapping in another rearend.
