Default Eaton Posi chatter after rebuild

Hi Guys,

I had my 10 bolt rebuilt last year by a local shop probaby has less than 5k miles because of winter, with a master overhaul kit, new Easton Posi and 3.73gears. (I know I should have bought a 9" or S60 which I am now researching) Recently I have noticed when driving through parking lots and in slow speed turns it sounds and feels like the posi isn't releasing, it's chattering. I poped the cover off last weekend to see what the fluid looked like, it was dirty but no metal shavings. I refilled it with fresh oil and posi additive and now it's worse! Seems like straight line performance is fine. Car is a 98 A4.

Any thoughts?

Go into an empty parking lot where there is lots of room, throw the car in reverse, turn the wheel all the way and drive in tight circles in reverse in both direction for several circle. See if that helps.

The noise happens in reverse too but I'll give it a shot. I hope I won't have to do that often, any thoughts of why? Can this be caused by bad tires?

Used to be pretty common back in the day on limited slip differentials. That was one of the tricks we used to "loosen them up".

Also, I don't know if you did this or not, but it used to be protocol to soak the clutches for a day or so in gear oil with additive before installation.

I didnt do the install so I don't know, but they had the car for a two days, maybe they did? I don't know if I should take the cover off again and try a new oil.

Last night I brought the car to an empty lot and did what was suggested, no improvement, it may be a little worse now, I am driving a spool now! Anyone know a good rear shop in Connecticut?
Thanks,
Mike

Did a little more research I'm going to drain the fluid and add mineral gear oil and the limited slip additive and I found that this type of oil quiets the chatter. I'm having trouble locating that type of oil everything around here is synthetic. The dealership doesn't carry it anymore. Ill update this thread when I'm done!

Update: I located 80W 90 Mineral oil GL-1 at tractor supply yesterday for 19.99 for two gallons. I drained the fluid put the new gasket on and refilled with GM posi additive and 2 qts of Mineral oil. First drive everything extremely quiet, even brought it into a parking lot did tight turns not even the slightest noise. I'm very happy and it only took me about an hour from start to finish. Thanks again for the help!

The first time Lucas and the second time royal purple with additive plus GM additive both I think were GL-5.
